Growing up, there was a fence that separated our back yard from the enchanted area we called the “way-back,” a small field of weed grasses. One year, my parents hired a landscape designer and took down most of the fence to open up the space and put in vegetable and flower beds. Many panels of the fencing formed the backdrop for a place to deposit unused garden pots and tomato cages.
